Richard Elvin Ross, 86 of Haiku passed away in his home surrounded by his loved ones on Tuesday, October 22nd 2019.
He was born in Portland Oregon, on February 4th 1933. Richard graduated with an engineering degree from Stanford University. He later transferred to Ocean Systems in Sunnyvale and San Diego, and was the Chief Pilot for the deep Quest Submarine.
He loved sailing, and riding his Aerial Square Four Motorcycle in his early years.
He eventually sailed across the ocean in a small sail boat and landed on Maui, which was his home till the end. He became a Licensed Sea Captain of a Glass bottom boat sailing across the Lahaina coast line.
Later he received a Hawaii Builders Contractor’s License and created Hawaiian Custom Homes. He is responsible for building and designing many beautiful quality custom homes around the island. His knowledge, wisdom and skill that he shared with us as a builder will forever live on and mark his place in our local Maui landscape. He was truly a Master builder. Although he is no longer with us, he will continue to live on in the hearts of his loving wife Wannisa Ross, Sister Becie William Perlich, his Niece Cathey Bode, Nephews John and Gary Perlich in Portland Oregon, and all his friends on Maui and around the globe.
There will be a scattering of his ashes at sea at a later date.
