Minaya had numerous invitations to play collegiate basketball despite not having a high school ranking as a prospect. He received official offers from South Carolina, UNC Wilmington, Boston University, Illinois, Iona, and UMass. Prior to deciding on the Gamecocks, Minaya visited South Carolina and UNC Wilmington. On May 15, 2017, he signed his letter of intent.

From 2017 to 2021, Minaya played with the Gamecocks for four seasons, missing just five games due to a major knee injury. In 2020, Minaya will also have thumb surgery. Under head coach Frank Martin, he started every game for South Carolina for four years. Minaya spent four years in South Carolina before relocating to Providence for his senior year.

After going undrafted in the 2022 NBA draft, Minaya joined the Charlotte Hornets for the NBA Summer League.[2] He was chosen to play with the Capitanes de Ciudad de México in the NBA G League during the 2022–2023 season. On April 4, 2023, Minaya agreed to a 10-day contract with the Portland Trail Blazers.[4] Minaya made his NBA debut on April 4, 2023, scoring 8 points in a 119-109 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies.
