Described as a ‘Hollywood Hills masterpiece’, Mosman’s Vina Del Mar has sold for a massive double-digit million-dollar price the same day it hit the market.

This is the 1930s residence designed by architect Alan Stafford for Wrigley’s Australia managing director George Ekblade and was also the venue for renowned Australian author Madeleine St John’s wedding in the 1960s.

Pello principal Stefon Bertram exchanged on the historic five-bedroom mansion with pool at 30A Morella Rd for $10,075,000 on the same day that it was listed on realestate.com.au.

“We’d shown the property to a local couple off-market and they fell in love with the Spanish Mission style of the home, which is very unique,” Bertram said.

The sale was good news for the vendors, which documents show are Xiaojing Zhong and Guangsheng Shi, who had bought the home for $6.26m five years ago and done nothing to it since.

Bertram says he’s getting good interest in homes as the sales year draws to a close.

“They realise they need to strike now, or wait until February, March or April next year,” he says.

The purchasers are apparently rapt with their purchase, excited about the prospect of restoring the classic home to its original glory and modernising the kitchen and bathrooms.

Home prices stabilise

But there’s little doubt they’ve got something special to work with in this 1934-era home.

As the advertising blurb says, it has a Mediterranean vibe and sits in lush surrounds.

The interiors, which are full of character with rich timber floors and beamed ceilings, spill to multiple terraces, lawns and manicured gardens.

Other attractions are the candelabra lighting, stunning stone fireplace and French doors.

The formal dining room has picture windows that frame the views; there’s a large family room; four spacious upper level bedrooms (two with ensuites) and a fifth bedroom or office.

The pool faces north; there’s a wine cellar and a double lock-up garage, with additional off-street parking for guests.

The land was part of the original grant to Scottish free settler Thomas Graham in the 1820s, which makes up what is now known as Clifton Gardens.
