Former North Melbourne captain Albert Mantellos beachside mansion has $18m+ price tag
A beachfront mansion that was former North Melbourne captain Albert Mantello’s “pride and joy” is set to become one of Sorrento’s priciest pads.
The four-bedroom house at 8 Leggett Way is being sold via expressions of interest with a $18m-$19.8m asking range.
Mantello and wife Lorraine purchased the site in 1971 and built the mansion featuring a pool, north-facing terrace and triple carport.

Their family often spent summer holidays and weekends there, and Mantello made the abode his main home after Lorraine died in 2017.
Sadly, Mantello himself died last year. Apart from serving as Kangaroos captain in 1960, the Hall of Famer played 107 games with the club and went on to serve as its vice president and president.
Mantello famously recruited Ron Barassi as coach after buying a desk from his furniture store in 1973, with the deal initially inked on a napkin.
Also a well-known property developer, Mantello became an AFL Commissioner in 1988.
His 1884sq m modernist-style mansion is named “Paringa”, a moniker it shares with a 36 foot-long (10.97m) boat the family owns.
Mantello’s son Jeremy said the house was “pretty modest when it was first built”.
“It was rebuilt and renovated, I’d say in the early ‘80s and had a major renovation in 2000-2001,” Jeremy said.
“My father, it was his pride and joy, he loved it.”
Jeremy recalled his parents hosting “their infamous New Year’s Eve parties in the late 1970s and early ‘80s” at Paringa, with many friends including the late Sunday Herald Sun sports journalist and columnist Scot Palmer in attendance.
Kay & Burton chairman Gerald Delany described Paringa as “a landmark property and the best Sorrento can offer”.
“The first floor living and entertaining area has a fantastic view of Blairgowrie Marina and Port Philip Bay, it’s one of the best views I’ve seen from a property down there,” Mr Delany said.
Sorrento’s $30m house price record was set by 3510 Point Nepean Rd last year, while
5 Kildrummie Court sold for $25.2m in 2020.
Expressions of interest will close December 8.
