Fake pic of Zendaya at Met Gala 2023 leaves fans furious

Publish date: 2024-06-08

NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: A Twitter post has been circulating on social media, purportedly featuring Zendaya at the 2023 Met Gala red carpet on Monday, May 1. Fans of the 'Euphoria' star were euphoric to see the 26-year-old actress attend the Met Gala event, as it was her first appearance in nearly four years.

However, this joy was short-lived as users soon pointed out that the photo was in fact photoshopped. The viral photo of Zendaya allegedly standing on the steps of the Met Gala was actually a manipulated image of British singer and songwriter Rita Ora, where her face was replaced with the American actress and singer.

Where is Zendaya?

Despite rumors suggesting that Zendaya would be at the Met Gala 2023, she didn't attend the annual event. Although her absence is not surprising given she has not attended the Met Gala in the last four years. The last time she graced the carpeted steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art was in 2019, alongside her friend and longtime stylist, Law Roach.

The two created a magical moment on the pink carpet by dressing up as Cinderella and the fairy godmother, in accordance with that year's theme, 'Camp: Notes on Fashion'. They donned dazzling icy blue looks by Tommy Hilfiger.

Why did Zendaya skip the event?

During 'Euphoria’s FYC event on April 20, 2023, Zendaya disclosed that she will not be able to attend the Met Gala this year. The actress said, "I'm gonna disappoint my fans here, but I will be working. Your girl's gotta work and make some movies," as per Sportskeeda. However, Zendaya's absence is understandable given the circumstances, as she was last spotted in Las Vegas for CinemaCon, where she received the 'Star of the Year Award' while wearing a stunning gold gown, on Thursday.

Two days prior, she also made an appearance at CinemaCon's 'Dune: Part 2' presentation, wearing a backless plunge vest.

Prior to that, Zendaya attended the Nita Mukesh Ambani Cultural Centre Gala in Mumbai, India. She looked stunning in a midnight blue one-shouldered sari designed by Rahul Mishra. The outfit included a triangle bralette decorated with gold-leaf filigree, along with a sheer crystal-embroidered fabric draped over the left side of her torso and extending into a full-length sheer cape over her left shoulder.

'This was pure evil btw!'

A Twitter account with the handle @arisdoja posted a photo that appeared to show Zendaya posing at the Met Gala carpet. The post quickly gained traction and her fans were thrilled about her supposed attendance at the event. However, it was later discovered that the photo had been edited and it actually featured British singer Rita Ora. Internet users flocked to Twitter to voice their anger and disappointment.

One user wrote, "HOLY MOLY OH MAMAMMAAMA ZENDAYAAAAA." Another pointed out the difference and said, "Whoever changed this to zendaya is actually evil like so many people have been fooled when its actually rita ora #MetGala." A third shared a gif and added, "To the person who edited Zendaya’s face on Rita Ora’s body #MetGala." A fourth wrote, "Me waiting for blake lively, zendaya, bella hadid, rosé and jimin to attend met gala #MetGala." Another highlighted, "This was pure evil btw." "Like why tf would you play around like that," read another tweet.
