BBC Music announces The Biggest Weekend

Every year, BBC Radio 1 takes over a lucky location in the UK to host their Big Weekend. Last year the festival took place in Hull, where the likes of Katy Perry, Kings of Leon, The Chainsmokers and Little Mix took to the stage. You can check out our highlights from the event here.

However, this year things are being done a little differently. This morning, BBC Music announced The Biggest Weekend, which will take place on four sites, in four nations, across four days between May 25-28.

The lucky cities which will host the event are Belfast, Coventry, Perth and Swansea. Each concert is being held by a different radio station, with Radio 1 representing the Swansea event, BBC Radio 6 Music representing Belfast and Radio 2 and 3 representing Perth and Coventry.

Some of the artists have already been confirmed, and it’s safe to say that we’re in for a treat.

Belfast – Friday 25 and Saturday 26 May

Beck, Manic Street Preachers, Courtney Barnett, and Public Service Broadcasting are set to perform at Titanic Slipways, Belfast.

Perth – Friday 25 and Saturday 26 May

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds and Nigel Kennedy will take to the stage at Scone Palace.

Swansea – Saturday 26 and Sunday 27 May

Taylor Swift and Ed Sheeran will be bringing all their hits to Swansea’s Singleton Park.

Coventry – Sunday 27 and Monday 28 May

Nigel Kennedy, Snow Patrol, Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band, and Billy Ocean will be heading to the War Memorial Park in Coventry.

More acts for each location will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Tickets

Tickets for The Biggest Weekend go on sale on Monday February 12. Swansea tickets will be available from 7:45am, Perth and Coventry from 8:30am and Belfast from 10am.

Tickets cost £18 per person (+£4.50 booking fee) for a day ticket for one event location. The following number of tickets will be available:

– 20,000 per day for Perth
– 18,000 per day for Belfast
– 26,000 per day for Swansea
– 25,000 per day for Coventry

However, as usual, tickets are divided into three pots. A number of tickets (Pot 1) will initially be reserved for residents of the respective council area. A second set of tickets (Pot 2) will be reserved for others living in the wider surrounding area of each event, with the remainder unreserved (Pot 3).
